SYNOPSIS

Phenakistoscopes (the “magic disc”) and zoetropes, which existed even before the invention of cinema, can be understood as devices that produce a sense of reality through the creation of apparent motion (phi phenomenon / illusory movement). In this context, video is approached as their direct descendant, and is treated as a far more powerful apparatus for the production of reality itself.
